File transfer

Users can transfer the HighRes of an asset via the browser user interface to a target device if all the following administration setup and requirements are fulfilled:

  • the asset:
    • its creation status is stable enough : the initialization, transcoding and probing (extracting of technical info) should be completed; proxy generation may still be ongoing.
    • should be Ready for production (the HighRes file exists)
    • the transfer request is made from the direct attached site of the asset's production
  • the user issuing the transfer request:
    • has the transfer_<asset_type>_asset permission
  • a list of target devices with the following requirements will be proposed:
    • the user issuing the transfer request is part of a group that is in the target device's Write permission groups
    • the target device has a site associated in its administration interface and the transfer request is made from that site
    • the target device can be however part of other productions than the asset's production
    • the current asset's device is excluded from the list
    • the final list should be non-empty

If one of these conditions is not met, the transfer button is disabled and an error message is displayed if you hover over the button.

After the user clicks on Start transfer, the HighRes of the asset will be copied to the target device (if the protocol is Copy, otherwise the FTP / SMB protocol is followed). If the delete_source argument of the transfer API function is set to true, the initial HighRes file will be deleted after the transfer.

More details in the user handbook.

Records of transfer activities

medialoopster administration → medialoopster → Transfer activities

Management → Filetransfer

A record of all activities of file and asset uploading, importing and transferring, via user requests, from a device to another, is stored in the administration and management interface. It includes as well the asset sharing from a production to another, since asset sharing is in the end an asset transfer from a device of the source production to a device of the target production. In the administration interface the model should be used only for visualizing.
